Project Overview
The Client
Laura Lit is a multidisciplinary visual artist whose body of work spans sculpture, drawing, and figurative explorations. Known for her attention to form, shadow, and psychological depth, Laura's work has been exhibited nationally and internationally—yet her digital presence lacked the same commanding presence.
The Challenge
Laura needed a website that could house the complexity and breadth of her portfolio while remaining visually quiet and restrained. She wanted to showcase her work without visual clutter or distraction, making the website itself almost invisible—allowing the art to speak for itself. Her previous platform lacked both structure and sophistication.
Our Approach
What We Delivered
Homepage with exhibition highlights: created an immersive banner-driven layout featuring the current and past exhibitions, each linked to pop-up galleries for easy exploration.
Multi-category portfolio structure: developed clear tabs for All Sculptures, Drawings, Figurative Works, and Special Projects—allowing visitors to navigate her catalogue effortlessly.
Minimal design system: used soft spacing, monochrome tones, and restrained typography to create a serene user experience that frames rather than competes with the work.
Interactive hover states: integrated title and detail overlays on artwork grids to provide information without disrupting visual flow.
Tabbed About section: included intuitive navigation between CV, Press, and Gallery using horizontal tabs, maintaining consistency with the site’s layout.
Responsive, gallery-style experience: designed the site to perform seamlessly across all devices—ensuring curators, collectors, and audiences can view the work anywhere.
The Results
UX & UI Design Outcomes
Elegant digital showcase: the new website delivers an elevated, gallery-inspired user experience that enhances the perception of Laura's work.
Seamless gallery navigation: visitors can explore works by medium, year, or theme, supported by an intuitive structure and simple filters.
Visually elevated artwork presentation: soft whitespace, restrained colours, and delicate overlays keep focus where it belongs—on the artwork itself.
User-first minimal design: the website’s structure is clean and intentional, offering clarity without compromising on design depth.
Creative Execution
Impact and Creativity
From the outset, our goal was to mirror Laura Lit’s artistic sensibility through a digital format—calm, minimal, and precise. We opted for a quietly confident aesthetic that foregrounds her work without distraction. The homepage acts as a visual timeline, using full-width banners of her latest and past exhibitions to set an immediate tone of credibility and depth. These images are not just decoration—they serve as contextual anchors, creating a sense of progression and story. Inspired by physical gallery experiences, the website feels spacious and contemplative, allowing each piece room to breathe. The use of subtle motion—such as smooth pop-up galleries and hover effects—adds gentle interactivity without disturbing the meditative feel of the site.
Functionality and User Experience
Navigation is clean, linear, and intentional. Rather than overwhelming visitors with complex menus or nested pages, we introduced a clear, horizontal navigation system that mirrors the clarity of Laura’s work. The entire site structure is shaped around intuitive discovery—visitors can explore by medium (sculpture, drawings, figurative work, or special projects), and within each section, a grid layout displays pieces in a consistent, accessible format. Hover reveals give quick access to artwork titles and details without cluttering the view. This approach makes it easy for gallery representatives, collectors, and art enthusiasts alike to explore at their own pace while staying fully immersed in the work.
Branding and Storytelling
While we used Laura’s existing logo, the brand expression evolved through the language of layout, typography, and visual restraint. The font system—delicate but structured—reinforces her identity as a serious, established artist. Instead of overwhelming the viewer with lengthy descriptions or stylised effects, we let the art and structure do the talking. The site tells the story of Laura's career by how it presents the work: grouped by type and year, laid out cleanly, and supported by brief, factual captions. The simplicity of this approach reflects confidence—it assumes the viewer will engage deeply, and gives them the space to do so.
Execution and Design Excellence
We approached this project with a commitment to quiet design—one where attention to line, balance, and hierarchy takes precedence over visual noise. The rhythm of each page was carefully considered, using consistent spacing and image alignment to create a smooth scroll experience. Gallery pages are built with responsiveness in mind, ensuring every image looks intentional regardless of device. The About section was styled with the same care: soft imagery, tabbed content areas, and a professional yet personal tone that reinforces trust and accessibility. From top to footer, the design honours Laura’s body of work through clarity, control, and creative restraint.
Summary
Laura Lit’s website redefines how an artist can show up online—with subtlety, precision, and power. Through thoughtful design and a minimal, structured layout, we created a portfolio experience that places the artwork at centre stage. The result is a professional, gallery-quality website that reflects her artistic voice while delivering a quiet yet impactful user experience.
