4 Ways To Add Personality To Your Website

Good websites need an authentic personality.

That's not something that a geeky developer can simply imprint into your website code, no matter how good he or she is. In fact, creating authentic and personable websites has less to do with coding and more to do with who you are as a person and business owner and how well you are at communicating that to your target audience. Despite there being many tools, apps, and website platforms that almost anybody can use to DIY a website, achieving that high quality UX (user experience) or that personable feel requires some further customisation. Remember, the desired results should engage and inspire your audience to be compelled to buy your product or service. Therefore, your website is your chance to impress and win over your audiences attention while conveying your brand values and character.

In today’s blog, we’ll give you a quick overview of 4 things to think about in order to add personality to your digital presence and create a website that will make your ideal clients line up to work with you.

Typography

The typography style that you choose to use on your website will influence the perception your audience have about your business. For example, take a business like MumsGetFit. Mums Get Fit is all about empowering women to get leaner, fitter and stronger. We chose simple, bold and strong looking font for the headings and complimented it with pink background to communicate the simplicity of Christina's approach to getting fit and to help visitors understand that the website is meant for women.

On the other hand, a brand such as Becky Barnes Style has an elegant, chic and high-end look to it, that’s why we’ve used an editorial style type in order to communicate this brand style and attract the right kind of clients. This last point is particularly important.

Colours

The colours you choose to use on your website play a big part in communicating your brand’s personality. There is a whole colour psychology to it and each colour has been found to communicate different emotions and feelings in branding.

For example, for our client Insight101, we chose a black and white colour palette that communicates high-end, elegant and quality feel.

The use of green and earth tones would suggest links with the environment and being eco-friendly. This is why we've used a few shades of green colour to create a website for our client Village Green.

Graphics Design Style

In terms of your graphics design style it's all about complementing your brand style personality through a visual language. Here at Visuable, we like to keep our graphics cool, contemporary and minimal and let the pictures do the talking (more on that later).

Hand written and script typography elements are especially recommended if you are a personal brand as handwriting adds a personal touch to your business whilst communicating your personality in a visual way. Instead, if you are a brand seeking to add some boldness and liveliness to your digital presence, try incorporating some geometric shapes through graphics as this is something that will help to bring a sharper, more defined edge to your brand character.

Images

As the name suggests, at Visuable we believe that great images are the most important part of a personable website. High quality brand images will add personality to your website, help you to communicate who you are and what you do, and will build trust with your potential clients. Moreover, images on your website will help people imagine what it’s like to work with you and what it’s like to use your product or services. This is a key prerequisite for a winning sales strategy.

In contrast, generic stock photos tend to have the opposite effect. There are many businesses who use very similar stock photos which dilute their brands and blur their character. Today, it’s essential to use personable, impactful and high quality images that capture the essence of your brand and distinctly display what it represents.
